Rust on a metal roof rarely stays put once it starts, and painting over it without proper prep just traps the problem underneath. Our process begins with pressure washing to remove loose rust, dirt, and failing coatings, followed by wire-brushing any remaining corrosion down to a stable surface. A rust-inhibiting primer is then applied directly to treated areas to halt oxidation before it spreads further under the panel. From there, the Conklin MR System’s elastomeric topcoat seals the treated surface against moisture, UV, and the freeze-thaw cycles that accelerate corrosion across Western Colorado winters. Light to moderate rust responds well to this approach and can often be stopped without panel replacement. Rust that has compromised a panel’s structural integrity is a different situation, which is why every project starts with a hands-on inspection to confirm your roof is a good candidate before we recommend restoration over replacement.
